Ugly Face and Scary blood dripping backgruond with large word disfiguredThe texts, video and film “Autobiography of a Face”, “Facial Discrimination: Living with a Disfigured Face”, “The Elephant Man”, “Screening Stereotypes” and “Mask” by Lucy Grealy, Neil Steinberg, Ford, Peter and Michael Howell, Paul K. Longmore, and Peter Bogdanovich demonstrates their stories in a form on its significance from a disability standpoint. The stories reflect on the word “disfigured” because all the characters are associated with being unaccepted people due to their appearance and disability. Some of the characters are seen as a monster because of the way they look and act around people. I think that all the characters have unique ways of living their lives with their disabilities and depend on their possession in order to avoid negative contact with people. The texts, video and film explain the characters experiences in dealing with health issues, obstacles and hatred in their lives to survive with their disabilities.
